The Western Interconnection provides electrical power to more than 90 million people in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The reliability of this system is essential to our modern quality of life. In this report, WECC evaluates the health of the Western Interconnection in 2025 through key indicators of system performance.

Of particular note are the first two focus areas. Large computational loads drew significant headlines in 2025, WECC and our partners are working together to address the risks to reliability posed by the rapid growth associated with these facilities. We have also seen the recent progression of the energy markets in the West, including the first RTO and first day-ahead market in early May, leading us to add Markets as a new area of emphasis within this report this year.

Our Interconnection is one of the most complex machines ever built, and together we can ensure that it continues to meet the challenges of a changing world, while ensuring reliable power for tens of millions of people.
